Yi-chun Chen, Piano

Pianist Yi-chun Chen was born in Tainan, Taiwan. Yi-chun became a medalist in several national competitions and was an honor student at National Taiwan Normal University, with a major in piano performance. She was the staff accompanist in ballet and music instructor at the National Tainan Chia-Chi Girls senior high school for seven years before coming to Spokane.

Yi-chun has been teaching piano lessons for a long time and enjoys it. In addition to teaching, Yi-chun loves collaborating with other musicians, especially young musicians. “Sharing what I’ve learned and guiding young students to see and hear the beauty of the music is what I want to do”, said Yi-chun.

Yi-chun holds two master degrees: a M.A. in piano performance and a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Eastern Washington University. She made her debut in Spokane with Allegro, Baroque Beyond on the Music in the Historic Homes series concerts. Yi-chun played Chopin’s “Les Sylphides” with Theater Ballet of Spokane, played for musicals “West Side Story” & “Miss Saigon” at Lewis and Clark High School, and was the pianist for a concert tour with Dr. Randel Wagner and David Dutton in 2002 throughout Taiwan. Yi-chun also served as the staff accompanist at Eastern Washington University and Spokane Area Youth Choirs for several years. She has also accompanied many students at Solo and Ensemble, Spokane Youth Symphony concerto competitions, and MusicFest Northwest.
